Echo

Yea, I'm much more excited for this matchup than yesterday's, and I echo what everyone says about Bodie. He's got my vote. One thing I liked about Kenard was that he came off as this ridiculous little kid who tried to be as hard as possible, but when he shoots Omar, the look on his face is priceless. It's that, "oh shit, I can't believe I just did that" look. And then he drops the gun and runs off. For all the shit he pulled trying to look tough on the corner, he was just a little kid. I feel like when he shoots Omar, that scene was just as much about Kenard as it was Omar.

Bodie's one of my favorites from season 1. We already talked about his scene with Wallace. Similar to Kenard in that he talked a lot of shit about how tough he was. The whole conversation after he gets back from the juvenile detention center is an example. "If it was yo ass you'd still be up in there." But when it came to pulling the trigger on Wallace, he had that same face as Kenard when it was done. More on Bodie in the next round where we can use the good cop bad cop clip from season 1.

Like Everyone Else....

I've felt like complete crap all day, so I'm going to make this as brief and to the point as possible. Like everyone else, I'm voting for Bodie, because he's awesome and other than Omar, he's the character I most hated to see die.

Bodie

"You up in some house somewhere, playin Michael's little bitch."

"Package up my ass, gump."
"Yo, look at that little n*gga gettin his ass kicked."

"Do I look like a faggot?"

Other great Kenard quotes:
"Ain't no school can hold me if I wanna leave."
"He don't think I can jail? Shiit." (talking about Carver)

And of course:

Obviously I'm picking Bodie, but Kenard is an awesome character. Curious to see what becomes of him when he gets out of jail...

Bodie

Clearly Bodie takes this. I agree with what Bushmills said about Bernard, he's interesting in his own right, but nowhere near as important or awesome as Bodie is.

We are hearing a lot of strong opinions about Bodie so far. To be honest, I never stopped to think about him as being a major player on this side of the bracket. I guess I always assumed the big boys would walk here, but now that I think about it, and hear what others are saying I could see Bodie being a dark horse. And that makes sense, he provides a very very strong character opposite the Avons and Wee Beys of the world. I am interested to see how this ends up for our man here. Maybe the little bald headed bitches finally get some love on the this here blog.

Bod

I love sandwiches. Bodie's interaction with the cops, particularly Herc and Carver, is one of my favorite recurring instances of the show. It's probably the first thing that really drew me in and made me start to realize how awesome the show is. His break out of the juvi was a little hard to believe, but in general everything he does is pretty awesome, including his incessant spitting through his teeth. He is the ideal "bald headed bitch". Kenard obviously has his moments, but he can't stand next to Bodie here.

Bodie

Bodie will win this, and he should.  He's an awesome character throughout 4 seasons and also has a big impact on the show's plot development.  I agree with MWAC that there are tons of awesome scenes with Bodie that will be posted in the future.  The scene with him and McNulty in the park at the end of season 4 especially, that scene also makes me really want a sandwich.

Kenard is a pretty awesome character to and if he was going up against a weaker opponent I could see him making it to the 2nd round.  Kenard is hilarious when he shits all over Namond and then Dukie, loudly proclaiming that he's "out here trying to get shit done" while Dukie is acting like "a little bitch."  He does get shit done.  Him blasting Omar in the head was probably the most surprising scene in the whole series.  Sucks he's getting arrested at the end of season 5 since Marlo owes him $250,000 for killing Omar.  Of course, Marlo never would have paid him anyway.  But could you imagine what a kid like Kenard would do with $250,000?  That would be a pretty sweet reality show.

Bodie is just so amazing though, Kenard has to fall.

Bodie

I have been excited for this matchup for a while because I love Bodie. He is one of my top 5 characters. In fact, I have a series of videos i want to show of bodie which demonstrates his awesomeness, but I think he will run away with this one so I will save it for the next round.

I love how he is old-school about the game. He has no problem with being the king of his corner and nothing more. He was a soldier who followed order from Barksdale, but hated Marlo because Marlo refused to play by the rules of the old-school. His demise scene was one of my favorite scenes in the Wire because Bodie was an amazing badass and it ends with Michael's coming of age as he becomes Chris and Snoop.

Bodie

I think Kenard is an interesting character because he is already a lost cause at what seems like 10. Michael, Randy and Namond are all kids who could have become functional members of society had "the system" (in this case, parents, schools, cops, foster homes, counseling services) been inadequate. But Kenard is the closest thing to a kid basically being raised by wolves on the wire. He's running game on people before he hits double digits and he takes down the ultimate Stick Up boy with a shot to the dome.

Bodie though takes this for a lot of reasons. First of all, he is THE archetype of the typical corner boy -- not the soldier, or the king pin, but the guy grinding it out each day. In terms of our criteria, he is more important to the show, he is probably better at his job by virtue of him having hit puberty, and I would much rather hang out with him because I think Kenard would shoot me in the dick for no reason.

Gus

I haven't seen season five since it was broadcast, but I don't remember having the intensely negative reaction to Gus that many others seemed to have. Sure he was obnoxious and carried a "holier-than-thou" attitude, but generally I remember finding him somewhat amusing at times and a decent representation of a "traditional" journalist (or what I think one would be). Like everyone else, I think the newsroom was definitely the worst focus of all the seasons, but besides seeing Royce's bone-diddly, I don't think he was a crucial/interesting enough character to get past Gus here. As people have mentioned he is a political hack along the same lines as Valcheck, but sadly he did not get clocked in the face. Gus is a dumpy character, but I would say he's probably better at his job. I'd probably rather hang out with Royce to hear more dicksuck stories, but I'll give the nod to Gus in what, in either case, will result in most likely the biggest second round blowout. Gus-puss.
